Wrath & Gunfire
Elves are a long-lived race, often perceived as mysterious by the other mortal races of Middian. The ancient elven homeland and culture, now lost, had a strong connection to the natural world and many elves strive to maintain that portion of their heritage. Unfortunately, as Middian’s elves are also culturally Teischan, much of their elven heritage has been consumed in their homeland’s continuous war.
Physical Description: Elves are taller than humans, on average, with a slender, delicate physique. Still the most obvious feature to distinguish elves from humans, are their ears, which have noticeably pointed tips. Most elves have dark hair, as the human Teischans do, but their eyes tend to be larger and they have more brightly colored pupils, green and blue being the most common.
Society: By their nature, elves would be most comfortable living in peaceful harmony with the natural world and bending their considerable talents to the perfection of their surroundings. However, the ongoing war and the sustained hatred of the Barvans, have led to elven culture going down a much darker path. Elves have become fierce warriors as they strive to defend their chosen homeland from destruction. Likewise they have become more reserved and less cultured, laying aside some of their ancient traditions to focus more fully on fighting. Even elves outside of Teischer, as refugees or expatriates, tend to be somewhat secretive and dangerous.
Relations: At this point, elves have very little prejudice based on race, since most of them are involved in the Barvan/Teischan War, which already has enough cultural prejudices to go around. Generally, then find gnomes and halflings hard to relate to, as the innocent investigative obsessions of the gnomes and the carefree attitude the halflings show to outsiders are totally at odds with their current situation. Dwarves and Madrossinian orcs they tend to find approachable, but a bit too gruff and physical for their tastes. As the half-elves in the world show, the humans they live so closely with fascinate many elves.
Alignment: Elven culture values physical capability, particularly at tasks requiring skill and finesse, as well as thought and contemplation. Even locked in a nearly constant state of warfare, elves tend to be remarkable judges of character, although natural haughtiness might prevent them from ever actually verbalizing praise for a non-elf. Elves truly tend to being Neutral Good, strongly valuing kindness and beauty, however recent circumstances have led many to value only survival, making them true Neutral.
Religion: Worship of the Waterfowl was a major part of ancient elven culture and is somewhat maintained today. Teischan culture tends to be fascinated with honor and power and so reveres the Wolf and Leviathan. It is strangely common for elves, particularly those who have let their anger begin to take over, to worship the Whirlwind.
Adventurers: Elves within Teischer are likely to be caught up in the war at some point in their lifetime, thus many of them have martial training. Elves who have escaped the region may still choose a warlike path or may choose instead to further explore their connection to nature. Adventurers among the elves tend to adventure to survive and so their choices tend toward practical classes with lots of options.
Names: Elven names are basically just Teischan names as the elven language mixed with Teischan to become one language many years ago. Names will tend to be German in origin, although the elves do tend to choose the names with the softer sounds. Many family names are Teischan variations on the old elven names and if they were translated would mostly be found to reference nature in some way.

Return to Races and Peoples
I went with the bonus to Perception rather than the magic stuff, I think that fits better with our elves. And I made them so sad, what’s up with that?
